Anti-scam guide for job seekers — how to spot a fake job in 30 seconds
Job scams in India cost job seekers ₹1,200+ Cr/year. Learn the 7 red flags every Gujarat job seeker should know, and what to do if you've been scammed.
Red flag 1 — the recruiter asks for money upfront. Legitimate employers never ask for 'training fees', 'security deposits', 'background check fees', or 'ID card fees'. If anyone asks for money to give you a job, it's a scam. Report and walk away.
Red flag 2 — the offer is too good. '₹50,000/month for a 10th-pass data entry job' is not real. If the pay is 3x the market rate for the role and your qualifications, assume it's a scam. Check RozGar24's salary insights for the median.
Red flag 3 — the interview is on Telegram or WhatsApp only. Legitimate employers use email, phone, or video calls. If the entire 'interview' is text chat on a messaging app, you're talking to a scam ring.
Red flag 4 — no company website or GSTIN. Every legitimate Gujarat employer has a GSTIN. Ask for it. If they refuse or get defensive, walk away. You can verify a GSTIN at the government GST portal in 30 seconds.
Red flag 5 — the job description is vague or copied. 'Marketing executive — good salary — urgent hiring' is not a job description. Real employers list specific responsibilities, qualifications, and salary bands. If you can't tell what the job actually is, it's a scam.
Red flag 6 — pressure to act immediately. 'Confirm in 24 hours or we move to the next candidate' is a classic urgency-pressure scam tactic. Legitimate employers give you at least 3–5 days to decide on an offer.
Red flag 7 — the recruiter won't share their full name or LinkedIn. Real recruiters have LinkedIn profiles with employment history. Fake recruiters use burner numbers and stock photos. Always cross-check the recruiter's identity before sharing personal documents.
What to do if you've been scammed: (1) file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in immediately — the faster you report, the better the chance of recovery, (2) call 1930 (the national cybercrime helpline), (3) save all evidence — screenshots, messages, payment receipts, (4) report the listing to RozGar24 so we can ban the operator.
How RozGar24 protects you: every employer is KYC-verified via GSTIN + domain email. Every job listing is screened for scam patterns by both an AI model and a human reviewer. Every reported listing is investigated within 4 hours. Repeat offenders are banned for life.
Bottom line: if something feels off, trust your gut. Walk away. There are 10 more legitimate jobs on RozGar24 tomorrow.
